Book Description: In life, people face challenges and storms that come in different forms and fashions. These personal storms vary in scope, size and gravity, and some have short term effects whereas others may have long term effects. Whatever the magnitude of a storm, perhaps the most critical consideration at the end of the day is not so much the challenges or storms themselves, but rather how people respond to them. In this era of social, economic and political uncertainty, it is important for human service professionals such as social workers to gain a deeper understanding of different types of challenges that may impact the people they assist. Furthermore, it is important for them to attain a good grasp and understanding of how to address and manage these storms effectively. They may manage them on their own behalf or with their clients. A lack of understanding of these storms may lead to ineffective and misplaced interventions which do not offer any hope for the future. When people facing storms are given misplaced assistance or support, both the social worker and the client lose. This book examines the subject of storms from a Christian perspective and uses a real life experience of loss to highlight important lessons for both Christian and non-Christian social workers. It incorporates in each chapter vivid and thoughtful examples that illustrate storms, their impact on people and implications for recovery. Each chapter is coupled within a social workers perspective that highlights useful lessons for social work practice. The chapters also provide the reader with reflective questions that engage the readers by giving them an opportunity to explore their own lives, as well as discover life challenges they might have faced. The book not only sheds light on storms and challenges, but provides a relevant nexus of hope, faith and courage. This is exemplified in the chapters toward the end of the book that offer hope for now and for the hereafter. This is crucial in that the chapters do not leave the reader hanging and wondering what is next, but rather cultivate in the reader timely confidence, purpose for survival and a bigger perspective. This book is a hope builder, a confidence giver and a purpose provider for those struggling with challenges and personal storms in their lives. It provides readers with a new lens for the present and beyond, a lens for overcoming any storm. Individuals of all backgrounds including Christian and non-Christian social workers will gain from this book. It will not only strengthen their resolve for life, but will allow them the tenacity to look forward to a life after this. It is a reminder that, despite the storms and no matter how much people suffer, God is orchestrating the story. He is in control, He knows what He is doing, and at the end of the day its about Him.

Book Description: Hard times are not evidence that God doesn't exist or that He doesn't care, but at the same time, life doesn't necessarily become any easier when you become a Christian. In Navigating the Storms, author Dawn Hunt addresses several misconceptions about Christianity that new and old Christians alike may harbor, such as what praise is really meant to do, what a new Christian can really expect, and what it means if you are experiencing a wilderness period. She then uses stories from her own life to show that times of struggle are opportunities to draw closer to God and be strengthened and that if you cling to Jesus during the hard times, you will come out stronger and more blessed in the end.

Book Description: Go “storm chasing” through the pages of the greatest Book ever written! What storm has blown into your circumstances? Are you—or someone you love—suffering from the trauma of plans that have been washed away, relationships that have been uprooted, or security that has been devastated? Many believers have been known to ask, “God, where are You in this storm?” or, “Lord, did You send this storm into my life?” Just what does a believer do during a stormy season? StormProof: Weathering Life’s Tough Times tackles these and other tumultuous questions. Author Carol McLeod is a storm survivor—more than that, a victor—over infertility, depression, and cancer. She understands the spiritual, emotional, and physical challenges of the trials we face in our lives. A gifted Bible teacher, she provides “life preservers” of hope and faith through the eternal, practical wisdom found only in God’s Word. By examining key storms in the Bible, and the lives of those affected by them, Carol guides you to uncommon comfort for your own storms, offering the shelter of hope, joy, and faith. In StormProof, you will step out of the boat to walk the waves with Peter, knowing that Jesus always comes to be with you in the midst of your storms; you will be rocked aboard a wind-driven ship with the apostle Paul, in danger of being smashed against the rocks, but be preserved by God’s power; you will watch the gathering storm clouds with Noah, holding on to faith in God’s purposes. You will also experience Jonah’s self-inflicted tempest while affirming God’s unconditional love, sit in silence with Job and ponder his questions about the greatest storm of testing, and huddle with the disciples as their boat is swamped by surging waves—only to hear Jesus’s eternal words, “Peace, be still.” You will also hear about storms of harsh circumstances that others from recent history have encountered and overcome. Storms are common in every season of life. Yet, for a believer in Christ, the damage such storms cause can be contained, depending on how we navigate their tumultuous waves. There is a way—a triumphant way—to encounter the fierce gales of life and then exit the tempests with strength and resilience. There is a definitive way to walk through the most devastating of circumstantial tornadoes and emerge with grace, empowered for the future. There is a way to be StormProof.
