Book Description: There are no Death Stars or sparkling vampires in this book, or enchanted swords, or mushy, six-hanky chick lit tales. No. Instead, there is lots of mud, dirt, animal hair, the smell of dead worms baking in a hot car, and maybe a giggle or two. Come along on these six zany 99 44/100th percent true tales of the outdoor life. Action! Adventure! Fishing! Horses! Little sisters! The perfect bathroom book for those longer.... breaks. DEER WARS "Shoot zee deer, Terra. Vhy are you not shooting zee deer? Zhey are eating mein garten! Kill zhem all!" What happens when you have a landlord determined to eliminate an entire species from Tewksbury Township. FIRST BASS: I undergo Bass Basic Training. SHERRY AND THE RACCOONS: Have a hair-raising time with the Moffat sisters on safari in the wilds of northwesternmost Sussex County, NJ. A GOOD HORSE: He was skinny. He made ugly faces. He was free, and he was my first horse. CAMPING WITH MOM: A lifetime legacy of memories. THE DEER LITTLE TAIL: "My first deer, Terra-Terra! My first deer!" Does a road kill count as a First Deer? My housemate at the time certainly thought so, since she saw it first. But then...

Book Description: Dvora Baron (1887-1956), the first modern Hebrew woman writer, was born in a small Lithuanian town in 1887. Her father, a rabbi, gave his daughter a thorough education, an extraordinary act at the time. Baron immigrated to Palestine in 1910, married a prominent Zionist activist, but defied the implicit ideological demands of the Zionist literary scene by continuing to write of the shtetl life she had left behind. The eighteen stories in this superb collection offer an intimate re-creation of Jewish Eastern Europe from a perspective seldom represented in Hebrew and Yiddish literature of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Baron brings vividly to life the shtetl experiences of women and other disenfranchised members of the Jewish community. Her stories relate the feelings of a newborn girl, a "Jewish" dog, an impoverished bookkeeper, a young widow who must hire herself out as a wet-nurse, and others who face emotional and physical hardships. Baron's fluid writing style pushes the flexibility of Hebrew and Yiddish syntax to its limits, while her profound knowledge of both biblical and rabbinical literature lends rich subtleties to her stories. A companion to Conversations with Dvora: An Experimental Biography of the First Modern Hebrew Woman Writer, by Amia Lieblich (California, 1997), this collection is drawn from Baron's earlier as well as later works.

Book Description: Feel the swing and sway of the Jazz Age in this collection of stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Beautiful and Damned explores the world of America’s upper class during World War I and the beginning of the Jazz Age. Loosely based on Fitzgerald’s relationship with his wife, Zelda, the novel centers around Anthony Patch, a young East Coast socialite who is heir to his grandfather’s fortune and lacks motivation to pursue a meaningful career. In his attempt to find his place in society while waiting for his inheritance, Anthony loses himself to alcoholism; neglects his wife, Gloria; and struggles with the realities of everyday life. This volume also includes seven short stories by Fitzgerald published in the early 1920s, including “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Book Description: The Small Faces & Other Stories is a trip back in time, charting the rise and fall of one of the Sixties most energetic and successful bands. It is the extraordinary story of how this bold four-piece, led by mercurial cockney Steve Marriot, found fame and then splintered by the end of the decade to evolve into Humble Pie with Peter Frampton, and the Faces fronted by Rod Stewart. Along the way their trademark songs Itchycoo Park, All or Nothing, Stay With Me and Baby I Love Your Way would influence future generations of musicians such as Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene and Blur. By way of anecdote, interview and analysis, Uli Twelker and Roland Schmitt lift the lid on the bands’ complex histories and the explosive characters involved that built one of rock music’s most enduring and successful family trees.
